Flash Floods

Flash Flood Watch

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, (NOAA), issued a flash flood watch for the area, due to a strong storm front that developed over the weekend. Flash floods can occur when a severe storm brings heavy rainfall to an area over a short period of time. Areas with poor drainage, creeks, and other watercourses can leave their banks and cause flooding to nearby properties. SERVPRO® of Southern Delaware County & West Chester wants home and business owners to know that we have years of experience dealing with water damage emergencies, and  we can be onsite within four hours to begin the cleanup and restoration process.

Flood Safety Tips

Here are some safety tips from the American Red Cross to keep you safe until help arrives:

  • Turn off the power and water mains if instructed to do so by local authorities
  • Boil tap water until water sources have been declared safe
  • Avoid contact with floodwater. Listen to local area radio, or TV stations for the latest information
  • Don’t use gas or electrical appliances that have been flooded
  • Dispose of any food that comes into contact with flood water
