Mold Prevention Tips

9/5/2018 (Permalink)

There is always going to be some mold everywhere - in the air and on many surfaces.  Molds have been on the Earth for millions of years.  Mold grows where there is moisture.  Here are some tips to help prevent mold growth in your home.

*keep humidity levels as low as possible - no higher than 50% - all day long.  An air conditioner or dehumidifier will help keep the level low.

*be sure your house has adequate ventilation

*fix any leaks in your home's roof, walls, or plumbing

*clean up and dry out your home thoroughly and quickly (within 24-48 hours) after flooding

*add mold inhibitors to paints before painting

*clean bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry areas with mold-killing products

*remove or replace carpets/upholstery that have been soaked and cannot be dried promptly.
